Project Coordinator

Project on the Role of NHRIs in Situations of Conflict and Post - Conflict

1. Background

The European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) comprises National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from across wider Europe. NHRIs are state funded institutions, independent of government, with a broad mandate to promote and protect h uman rights. They are accredited by reference to the UN Paris Principles. ENNHRI’s Permanent Secretariat is based in Brussels.

ENNHRI is coordinating a project on the Role of NHRIs in Situations of Conflict and Post - Conflict (the Project), with funding s upport from the European Union ( EIDHR ). The Project aims to enhance the effectiveness of NHRIs to promote and protect human rights in situations of conflict or post - conflict throughout the wider Europe. The Project will be coordinated by the ENNHRI Secreta riat, through a Project Coordinator and Project Officer , with support from other Secretariat staff and an Advisory Group of experts in the field.

In this context, ENNHRI seeks a Project Coordinator to support the implementation of the Project.

2. Job Description

- Coordination and management of the Project’s activities, including;

  • Undertaking research and collation of information relevant to the Project;
  • Organising workshops , events and meetings ;
  • Developing programmes for peer exchange, and support for NHRIs under threat;
  • Overseeing awareness - raising activities, including materials and microsite;
  • Engaging with the Project Advisory Group , ENNHRI members, the Global Alliance of NHRIs, EU actors, and other relevant national and international stakeholders;
  • Internal and external reporting on the project, including to funders;
  • Managing the Project Officer; and.
  • Any other reasonable duties as are required in line with the general responsibility of the role.

3. Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • At least three years professional experience o f human rights in situations of conflict and post - conflict ;
  • Professional experience of project management;
  • Experience of engaging with European and international human rights frameworks;
  • Experience or demonstrable knowledge of NHRIs;
  • Excellent organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise work and manage conflicting deadlines;
  • bility to work on own initiative, as well as in a team;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral an d written) in Engli sh language; and
  • Cultural sensitivity, and experience of working in an international environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Professional experience of working for a membership organisation;
  • Experience of preparing awareness - raising materials;
  • Experience of NHRI networks;
  • Experience of working on human rights with actors on different sides of a conflict or post - conflict situation; and
  •  Additional language skills.

4. Terms and conditions

This is a full time post to be performed at the ENNHRI Secretariat in Brussels, supervised by ENNHRI’s Secretary General. The post holder would be expected to travel occasionally within Europe.

ENNHRI offers a fixed term Belgian employment contract to 30 March 2020, with a salary range of €3,600 to €3,900 gross per month, according to level of experience. The contract includes additional holiday payment and an end of year payment (pro rata), as well as secondary employment benefits (such as STIB, pension and lunch vouchers). The holiday entitlement is 26 days (pro rata), plus public holidays. The starting date will be in mid - September 2017.
