Competition Reporter

PaRR, a global news service used by lawyers, regulators and companies to keep track of developments in competition law, is looking for a Brussels-based reporter to report on mergers and antitrust investigations.

We are looking for a driven, creative individual who is capable of working independently and with colleagues across the globe. The ideal candidate will be an experienced legal/financial journalist with a proven record of breaking news.

The successful candidate will need to generate off-diary stories on a range of complex topics, with a focus on mergers, antitrust and public policy. The job requires collaboration with colleagues based in bureaus around the world including Hong Kong, San Francisco, Shanghai and Washington, DC and close cooperation with London staff.

Language skills and a background in law/EU affairs are advantageous, but not essential.

Occasional international travel is required.

Key duties

  • Merger coverage
  • EU deals 
  • Merger policy stories/reaction/trend-tracking/legislative process pieces at EC and national level
  • Occasional court cases on mergers
  • Regulatory developments
  • Conference coverage
  • Close liaison with London reporter on UK Phase II mergers & Brexit-related merger policy issues
  • Antitrust investigations at EC level and liaison with UK on these and policy issues
